I’m sure most if not all little girls have dreamt of becoming models. It’s hard to resist a career that just seems so glamorous and exciting.
However, the majority of us don’t get to pursue this dream because we don’t really know where to start. I was reminded of this because the other day, my friend’s daughter approached him and asked if she could have his permission to become one.
I’m not exactly sure how that conversation ended, but it got me thinking. How does one get started as a model? Turns out the answer is an agency.

One thing you’ll immediately notice about Numa Models is how diverse their clients are. They represent people of all ages, gender, ethnicity, and body types.
When talking to them, it’s clear that they prioritize their models’ well-being and health. They’re very friendly and welcoming, contrary to what most people would assume professionals in the modeling industry would be.
It’s also great that you don’t need a professional portfolio to apply for them. Not only is it convenient, but it makes modeling much more accessible for those who don’t have experience yet.
Although we like that they provide classes and workshops to develop their models, these training courses can be a bit pricey. They’re not mandatory, but we imagine it might be burdensome for models that are just starting out.

Named after his hard-working mother, Monica Model Management was founded by someone who was also a model. His experience inspired him to create an agency that would help make the fashion industry a better place.

Their longevity in the industry has allowed them to build important connections that can significantly boost a model’s career. They collaborate with designers, photographers, and brands that plenty of models dream to work with.
Besides this, they’re also known for treating their models kindly. This is especially nice to hear considering they sign a lot of young talents.
Before you start getting too excited though, we should let you know that they do have quite a lengthy casting process that’s both time-consuming and nerve-wracking. Not only do you have to apply and submit a portfolio, but you also have to attend an interview as well.

Name any popular magazine and it’s guaranteed that Mode Models International has placed at least one of their models there. And we’re not saying that lightly; their models have actually been on the cover of Vogue.
One reason they’re so successful is because they have such intense training for models. From growing your portfolio to teaching you how to walk on runways, you’ll learn how ‘super’ gets attached to the word ‘model’.
With how modern most agencies are, we were impressed to learn that this one still does traditional scouting. It’s refreshing to know that they’re out there discovering talents instead of just waiting to be approached.
They’ve got a diverse list of clients, partly because they also sign other talents that can double as models, like drag performers, choreographers, and more.
However, they tend to be strict with one specific criterion — your height. Unfortunately, aspiring models under 5”6 will have to look for another agency.

House of Wild & Co is one of the newer agencies in the Calgary modeling scene, which is why it’s understandable to have a few hesitations before approaching them.
But despite them not having an extensive track record yet, they’re already making a name for themselves. They’ve signed a bunch of clients in different categories, including models that are young, mature, curvy, and even pet models.
Their services also cater to both experienced models and newcomers. From what we’ve heard, they’re pretty helpful when it comes to creating your portfolio from scratch.
It’s actually amazing how fast they train the new models to become much more confident in their skills. The closest thing we can compare it to is a crash course on how to become a better talent.
