radiologist-in-calgary

Need a reliable radiologist in Calgary? We’ve got you covered with these trusted names.

  • Expertise and Specialization: I prioritize radiologists who have undergone fellowship training in specific areas of radiology. This ensures that I receive the most accurate interpretations and diagnoses.
  • Patient Care and Comfort: I choose radiologists who emphasize patient care and comfort during procedures, as this can significantly reduce anxiety and improve the overall experience.
  • Accessibility and Wait Times: I look for radiology services that offer shorter wait times for appointments and results. This is crucial for timely diagnosis and treatment, as long delays can lead to increased anxiety.
  • Reputation and Reviews: Positive feedback from previous patients indicates high satisfaction with the quality of care received, which is essential for my peace of mind when undergoing imaging services.

As I get older, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of routine check-ups. After all, prevention is better than cure. But finding a reliable radiologist in Calgary can be daunting, especially when you need accurate and timely results.

That’s why I’ve taken the time to research and personally recommend the best radiologists in the city.

So, if you’re looking for a radiologist who can provide top-notch care and peace of mind, keep reading. I’ve got a list of the best ones, tried and tested. Let’s dive in!

How much do radiology services cost in Calgary?

A single-view X-ray typically costs around $50. In contrast, a CT scan starts at about $250 for one area without contrast and can reach up to $525 for multiple areas with contrast.
MRI services tend to be more expensive, beginning at $675 for the first body area, and additional charges apply for scanning further areas or using contrast.

Pros

  • Wide Availability
  • Highly Trained Radiologists
  • Timely Reporting

Cons

  • Potential Wait Times
  • Limited Personalization
  • Cost Considerations

Canada Diagnostic Centres (CDC) started in 1993 and was the first private MRI spot in Western Canada. You can get everything under one roof—from MRI and CT scans to 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasounds. They even do mammography and bone densitometry!

But what sets the CDC apart is its amazing Pain Management program. If someone is dealing with persistent pain, the CDC offers various injections, such as musculoskeletal (MSK) injections, epidurals, nerve root blocks—you name it.

The radiologists are actively involved in teaching and research at well-known institutions. Knowing that the specialists are at the top of their game and keeping up with the latest advancements in diagnostic imaging gives me peace of mind.

The whole atmosphere is so welcoming! The technologists walked me through each step and ensured I understood everything, especially regarding potentially uncomfortable procedures like MRIs.

One common complaint I noticed was the long wait times during peak hours, particularly for walk-in x-ray services. They could benefit from an online waitlist that shows real-time wait times.

Consistent, Courteous, and Caring Service

Great care. I’ve used this location for 25-30 years. I like the consistency and knowing what to expect before I get to my appointment along with the extreme professional manner the team demonstrates every year. Courtesy and the willingness to smile and be gentle with patients makes all the difference. Both techs were clear in the communication with me and no surprises came up. Kudos to all involved.

Exceptional and Compassionate Care

Loved my experience here! The front desk is soo amazing and my doctor was also amazing. While doing the procedure, she explained what she was doing and ensured I was comfortable. I had my baby with me since I didn’t have care, and my baby began to cry and the front desk came and offered to stay with my baby until I was done. I was actually very surprised by this but also very grateful. When I was done they kept my baby calm. Soo grateful and thankful for the entire team here.

Pros

  • Specialized Care
  • Patient-Centric Approach
  • Innovative Pain Management

Cons

  • Limited Hours
  • Potential Wait Times
  • Limited Obstetric Services

Beam Radiology stands out to me because of its integrated pain management program. They genuinely focus on figuring out what’s causing that pain in the first place. They tailor treatment plans to help you get back on your feet and improve your quality of life.

If you’re expecting or know someone who is, Beam has a special approach to obstetrical care. They offer personalized services that make a massive difference, like comprehensive imaging options and consultations to keep the mother and baby healthy.

What I appreciate about Beam is its patient-centered vibe. The team comprises sub-specialty-trained radiologists who truly care about the people they’re helping. They use advanced technology but pair it with that human touch we all value.

The radiologists are fellowship-trained in various specialties, such as musculoskeletal imaging and interventional pain management. It’s reassuring to know that the professionals who will address my health concerns are experts in their fields.

Now, I did come across a few mentions here and there about some issues with appointment scheduling, especially those last-minute cancellations that can throw a wrench in your plans.

I can see how frustrating that would be. A more robust appointment management system could help, maybe something with reminders and easier rescheduling options.

Efficient and Friendly Service

My first time here. The layout for the place is definitely well thought off. Big parking spots, super clean facility, and friendly staff. Was checked in within minutes. They had decent size storage lockers for keeping your valuables and clothes. The staff that completed the scan including Dr. Patel who did the medication were all friendly and put you at ease for the MRI process.

Pros

  • Compassionate Care
  • Timely Services
  • Community Involvement

Cons

  • Potential Higher Costs
  • Insurance Limitations
  • Limited Availability of Certain Services

EFW Radiology is known for its commitment to advanced technology. It uses MRI machines with AI features, which increase its diagnostic capabilities and can improve patient outcomes.

We all hate long wait times for medical appointments. In that case, you’ll appreciate this: EFW Radiology has significantly shorter wait times for MRI appointments than public hospitals. You can even get scheduled in a few days!

They also understand that getting an MRI can be anxiety-inducing. They have options to help manage that discomfort, especially for folks who might feel claustrophobic in those machines. It’s all about making the experience as comfortable as possible.

What strikes me, though, is how well-connected EFW Radiology is to the community. They partner with local organizations and collaborate with the University of Calgary for teaching and research.

It’s heartening to know that they’re not just focused on imaging; they actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings at major medical centers, which enhances patient management in Southern Alberta.

That said, I have seen some complaints in reviews about occasional delays with scheduling or unexpected waits when you arrive. I think if EFW Radiology worked on their communication—maybe sending timely updates about appointment statuses.

Accommodating Service

My wife and I always have the best experience with Raul when checking in for appointments. He’s always friendly, and he went above and beyond when we came in embarrassingly late when we almost forgot our appointment time. He still managed to fit us in and get seen. Would definitely recommend EFW to anyone looking for an ultrasound!

Fast and Consistent Pain Management Care

Excellent care. Excellent, consistent, helpful staff up front. Reception, booking, techs and Doctors are all professional, and assiduous. It doesn’t matter which location you go to South or North locations, the pain management provided is great. I have never waited more than 10 minutes.I had nerve blocks and facet joint injections.  I will continue going to EFW every three months for facet joint  injections. They have a new location at Uxborough near the Foothills hospital.

Hint: ask your PN or Doc to tick the asses and treat box on the form. It speeds along the treatment process.

Pros

  • Friendly and Helpful Staff
  • Comfortable Facilities
  • Advanced Technology

Cons

  • Long Phone Wait Times
  • Cold Exam Rooms
  • Limited Availability of Female Technologists

Mayfair Diagnostics offers a comprehensive range of screening and diagnostic imaging services. They’ve got all the X-rays and ultrasound machines, but what I find interesting is their advanced options, like breast MRIs and nuclear medicine imaging.

One thing that stands out about Mayfair is its cutting-edge breast services. They offer Automated Breast Ultrasound and specialized mammography, which are game changers for women with dense breast tissue.

They also perform bone mineral densitometry, which is a cool way to assess risk for osteoporosis. Their commitment to preventative care and women’s health is evident in their offerings.

Here’s something neat: they provide medical imaging for local sports teams, such as the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Roughnecks. Thus, athletes get the timely assessments they need right away.

They’ve got a team of over 60 doctors there! Knowing that these radiologists are highly trained, with many holding fellowships in subspecialties like musculoskeletal imaging and nuclear medicine, I felt really good.

That said, I have to mention that while they offer many services, there were some hiccups with accessibility and wait times. I managed to get an appointment fairly quickly, but when I arrived, I found myself waiting longer than I’d expected.

Efficient, Compassionate, and Professional Service

Highly recommended. My mammogram and ultrasound scans were done by the technicians, Jessica and Miranda respectively. Both were very professional and could explain all steps very well. Their kind words managed to make me feel relaxed and calm. All done promptly and within the expected time. Thank you very much. I will come back in the future.

Pros

  • Community-Based Approach
  • Positive Staff Interactions
  • Clean and Comfortable Environment

Cons

  • Appointment Scheduling Issues
  • Concerns Over Diagnostic Accuracy
  • Limited Operating Hours

Pureform Radiology is known for its state-of-the-art radiology services, such as Automated Breast Exams, which are important for the early detection of breast cancer, and Bone Mineral Densitometry.

If you or someone you care about is dealing with chronic pain, Pureform has your back with pain management injections. They use fluoroscopy and ultrasound-guided techniques, which means they can target the area needing treatment.

They also dabble in interventional radiology procedures, like biopsies. These are great because they offer minimally invasive options for a diagnosis and treatment without major surgery.

What I love about Pureform is its dedication to patient-centered care. They work with requisition forms from any diagnostic imaging provider, so you do not have to go through just one referral source.

As I researched Pureform, I found that its reputation was pretty mixed. Many people loved the friendly staff and the cleanliness of the place, but there were also complaints about last-minute appointment cancellations and communication hiccups.

They should introduce a more robust scheduling system with automated reminders and confirmations. This could help reduce surprises and keep patients informed.

Compassionate and Skilled Service

After battling through the city’s first crazy snowfall of the season, arriving 30 minutes late for my appointment (so actually 45 minutes given the requirement to arrive 15 minutes ahead of time), I was welcomed by understanding staff at the front desk and whizzed back for my first ever experience with cortisone injections. The radiologist and doctor were tag-team professionals, easily calming my anxiety. Today I feel great, I shouldn’t have waited as long as I did to have this procedure done! I truly believe the superior skill set of the providers in this instance contributed to my positive outcome significantly. Thank you!

Caring and Efficient Staff

The staff are nice and the x-ray was very quick. Receptionist asked me if I needed a wheelchair and it was very caring. Walk in line up for x-ray was a bit standing but when I told the staff my foot hurts, I was helped right away.
